We were submitted to the courts on Dec. 11th, and at this point we just needed to wait on a court date so we could begin our voyage to get our little boy. Typically upon submission you are looking at 25-30 days until you receive your court day, so as we approached our 49th day you could say I was starting to worry. It's amazing the tricks your mind will start to play on you as soon as you let fear and doubt slip in.
I began the day of January 29th much the same as I had every day since we had received word that we were submitted to the courts on December 11th. Hopeful that THIS might be the day.
At 10:23 am I received a call from the Associate Director of our program. I answered as calmly as possible, as if the answer on a half ring wasn't any implication of how eager I was to hear those words. She calmly said hello and asked if I was ready. And she hit me with it….Court Date - March 21st, 2014 at 11:00 am.
With that….the weight of the world was lifted. The turmoil in my heart had been expelled and my mind was put at ease. The daily obsessing was finally over. We were on our way once more.
For those of you who have stood beside us for these 759 days. Let me say I'm sorry….
To my friends and family……I'm sorry I've ignored your calls, knowing you were calling to get an update on our process…..It's been a rough few weeks, and I just didn't have the strength within me to explain that I had nothing new to report to you. I'm sorry for the short responses to your questions when I've seen you. I can't explain why those questions would irritate me, but I am sorry if I took my frustrations out on you.
And thank you all. Even through these times of wavering confidence and uncertainty, you each have stood next to us, listened to us (maybe even when you were tired of the adoption story), and you each have shown us what family is all about. Our son is lucky to have you behind him. We love you all, and cannot wait for you to meet Makaio! (Of course we can't wait to meet him either : ))
From here…..we will be staying in Seoul for two weeks starting in Mid-March. We've got the first trip booked and can't wait to get over there so we can spend some time getting to know Makaio, before attending court on the 21st. Fortunately this gives us plenty of time to explore Seoul, and familiarize ourselves with the city before returning for Gotcha day. If all goes well we will have him home no later than Late April - Mid May.
For those of you still waiting on that elusive court day….stay strong, even when it seems impossible….And keep your eyes on that light at the end of the tunnel.
