Family, Friends, Shelter, Health, Comfort.....all of which I am thankful and grateful for as well.
Let me express what I am thankful for on this Thanksgiving. Please bear with me because I am thankful for much.
1. My son
2. My wife
3. My parents
4. My sister
5. My grandparents
I guess I could have listed all of those as one group, however, I wanted to thank each as they have all shaped my life in ways that have led me to this day.
My Son - You were born March 6th, 2012. Little did I know that you had already been chosen for us almost two years ago. Oblivious to your existence, I still knew you would change my life forever. I have been thankful since the first of January, when we decided to adopt and I've lived every day from then until August 24th, 2012 waiting to see your face. You have owned me ever since and I cannot wait to spend the rest of my years getting to know you. I'm so thankful for that.
My Wife - You rocked my world many years ago and continue to do so today. From eating off the dollar menu at Wendy's, our wedding on the beach, and that decision to adopt on New Years Day. You never judged me, and you've always supported me. There is no better woman, friend, or wife out there. I'm so thankful for that.
My Parents - You raised me to care about people. I would say you couldn't say much more than that but you led me to God and with that my priorities fell in place. Unconditional love would have no meaning without you showing that to me. I'm so thankful for that.
My Sister - My ultimate friend. We've been there and back....good and bad. You ground me....make me realize what's important and allow me to discount that which isn't. You are real.....and that is your best quality. I wouldn't be who I am without you. I love you so much....not many have what we have. I'm so thankful for that.
My Grandparents - See above....you created all this awesomeness. I have the greatest grandparents in the world. Married over 50 years, humorous, great cooks, grumpy, stern, smart, grateful, humble, beautiful. I hope I am YOU at your age. You taught me what it was to be fun at 50, 60, and 70. You guys rock and you know it....it makes you even more awesome. Without the foundation you laid we would all be nothing. I'm so thankful for that.
I have much to be thankful for this day, but more than anything I am thankful for ability and freedom to bring our son into our lives. On 11/27/13 we received a call from our agency letting us know our EP had been approved. Long story short, things have gotten real, very quickly.
Quick update.....from this point....EP is approved. From there.....
Submission to courts 7-12 days
Subpoena issued 4-6 weeks
Travel to court 4-5 weeks
Gotcha Day 4-6 weeks
If you did as well as me at math in high school, let me break that down for you. Yes.....we should be bringing our son home sometime in March!!!!! What a milestone for us.
Beacuse of all of those I am thankful for on this day, I believe I have been prepared for this day. The foundation was laid many years ago and it has continued to transform my beautiful family over the years. My hope is that I can do enough justice to my family that one day our little Makaio can feel the way I feel today. We are coming for you little man.....and this day will soon be ours to share together.
